OMG, imagine the best rollercoaster ride combined with your favourite video game, you’re still not even close to the feeling of flying a helicopter…
Two weeks ago I was sitting in the pilot seat flying a helicopter for the first time.
What an amazing feeling!! I was flying along the sandy beaches of the south coast of England, what an amazing view!!
I’ve always been told that flying helicopters is a very difficult thing to do, however I didn’t find it that hard!
After about 30 minutes or so I started to get the hang of it.
The airport I took off from, Goodwood, is only about a 15 minute drive from where I live so I think I’m definitely gonna do some more lessons, it’s just too much fun!!
I’m not sure whether I will go for my pilots licence since there’s around nine written exams involved. At the moment it’s just kind of a fun thing to do.
I don’t think I am going to buy or share a helicopter, for a start they only last about 10 years then you effectively have to have them re-built.
The other thing is that, just like cars, technology is moving so fast that helicopters will possibly become an old technology within 10 years.
The Lilium jet is a good example of how technology, and especially battery technology, is accelerating the pace of change in many industries
The Lilium jet is going to be completely autonomous so there is no need for a pilot’s licence – seriously cool stuff. I have put my name on the waiting list.
Reading kindle books in the car
One of the things I love to do on long journeys is to read books in the car, This is easy to do as my car has autopilot, just kidding…
The way I read books in the car is by using an app on my phone called Audible these are books read by actors, audiobooks.
There are around 250,000 books available in the library, so most books are available.
However, every now and again there is an Internet marketing Kindle book that’s not available in Audible, so how do I read these in the car?
It’s kind of a hack but then I like that kind of thing, so this is how I do it.
I use my Amazon Alexa to read my Kindle book.
I hook up an audio cable from my Alexa to my Phone.
I then set Alexa off reading my Kindle book, and hit record on the audio recorder app on my phone.
I usually do this at night since some books can be up to 10 hours long.
In the morning I’ve got the full audiobook ready as an MP3 audio file.
I then use a really cool app called Listen Audiobook Player this makes it convenient to play the audiobook files faster than real-time, 1.5 times normal speed, similar to what audible does.
Just another useful hack from a dyslexic person.
I think I need to put together a little e-book, I could call it “The dyslexic hacker” what you think?
New logo from Fiverr
I’ve been in business since 2008 and I think I’ve done pretty well as an Internet marketer.
Personally I’m not really seen much use for things like logos, pretty business cards, or slick -looking websites.
I’m more interested in getting things good enough to make money.
However my business now has got the kind of size where I think I need at least a logo!! (And a registered trade mark)
Three weeks ago I went to fiverr.com, and did a search on the keyword “logos”.
This brought up a long list of people who could create logos for five dollars!
I sorted the results so the people with best feedback would be at the top.
I paid little bit extra to get the job done quickly, $30 actually.
After two or three revisions I got a logo that everyone is happy with and has the right “values” in it.
Let me know what you think – reply to this email.
Must see TV shows
The Keepers (Netflix)
A seven-part documentary about the decades-old murder of Sister Catherine Cesnik and its suspected link to a priest Paedophilia ring.
I found this a gripping documentary series and had to watch the entire seven hours worth in one day!! Definitely worth watching.
All the best,
I was looking through a very unused part of a cupboard the other day and came across a few books from my childhood, and one of them reminded me a bit of one of the reasons I got into marketing. You see, I’ve always had a fascination with how things work.
Even as a child I was always taking things apart just to see how they would work.
My grandmother even bought me a book called what makes it go, and this is what I found in my cupboard.
Being dyslexic I couldn’t read it, but the pictures and diagrams were totally fascinating.
I was equally fascinated to hear that some people could make a full-time income from their laptop.
When I found out that ordinary people were doing this, part of me just had to take the process apart and learn how to do myself.
I think I now understand one of the reasons I took flying lessons a few years ago – to learn how to fly a plane.
No, I don’t want to be a pilot, I just wanted to know how an aeroplane worked.
I also like the fact that I can get into a plane and take off and fly safely., and sit on the front seat while going around the Grand Canyon !
Today is a big day for me….
Later today I’m taking my first helicopter lesson. Again I don’t want to be a pilot. I’m just fascinated to learn the process..
Dave calls it, The zombie apocalypse helicopter insurance policy.
I don’t want to get a pilot’s licence, but I do want to learn how to fly a helicopter… You never know when that might come in handy.
I think Internet marketing is a very similar process. You don’t need qualifications or diplomas. Things don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to get 10% of things right and you will make money as an online marketer. Stop trying to make things perfect and get on and make some money…
Let me show you step-by-step how things work
If I sat down with you and showed you my step-by-step process for making money online, do you think you could get 10% of things right?
Join me this Thursday for a live online class where I want to teach you how to become financially independent.
I’m going to take apart 10% of my business and show you inside. I’ll be showing you step-by-step what you need to do to start making a full-time income now.
I was a bit concerned when I saw that the seat I was about to sit in had a button which said
water on or off.
For ages now I’ve been wanting to go see a film in 4DX , the new cinema format.
This is a cinema that has :
- electronic tilting seats
- flashing lights
Last week I took the plunge and decided to go and see the latest alien film “Alien Covenant” in 4DX, a truly terrifying thought!!
So on Wednesday, we drove all the way to Crawley, our local cinema that has 4DX.
We walked into the cinema and sat down, everything looked normal enough, and then I saw that the seat I was about to sit in had a button which said water on or off!
The seats were also a lot larger and more comfortable!!
Adding things like, wind and smell to a film is incredible. Add these things to a horror film, well I think you get the picture….
Alien Covenant is not as terrifying as some of the earlier alien films, but it is well crafted and in terms of filling in the backstory as to how the Aliens came about its a must see film for anyone who is a fan of the earlier movies.
All the best,
Last Thursday I went on my first continental road trip in my new Tesla. My plan was to take the Channel Tunnel to France and then drive the remaining 300 miles to the house(s) in Normandie.
My plan was to see how well the Tesla supercharger network worked in France. Dave was a bit sceptical with regards to whether I would make it to the house without running out of power!!!
I stopped three times in total to charge. First in Folkestone, in the Channel Tunnel car park, which was a good use of the 20 minutes time I had to wait for my train.
I also charged for 20 minutes at, Rouen and Caen. The best part is it’s free to charge your car using the Tesla superchargers!! And when I arrived at the house I still had 60% charge left!!
Last week at the London Meetup Martin Avis was asking if I had a home charger at the house in France. Well the answer to that question is “No I don’t”. This is because I signed up to a French charging network called Kiwhi.
Now the cool thing is 20 miles away at my local city Saint Lo, Kiwhihave a free (yes FREE) to use quick charger at the local Nissan garage.
It was a bit strange rocking up to the local Nissan dealership in my Tesla to charge my car!!
Now you need to remember Saint Lo is a very small city in France,so I thought I would be the only electric car owner in town!!
Turned out to be an assumption that was less than accurate !
There were two other electric car owners there with Nissan leafs at the charger…
It just shows how fast things are moving even in rural France…
The key thing though is this.
If I was driving a regular car I would have paid 600 miles round trip worth of fuel.
Driving an electric car – no fuel costs at all.
Isn’t that just cool !! Effectively free diesel or petrol !!
Saturday afternoon I was hard at work doing some decorating and general DIY work in the new house next door.
Dave and I were trying to work out where to put the new lights on the ceiling in the games room.
This is a huge 60 square metre room,645 square feet, it’s in the middle of being renovated so has a just a bare concrete floor.
Saturday afternoon I was standing on a plastic chair marking out on the ceiling where the lights were going to go, you can kind of guess what happened…
I lay there on the concrete floor in agony reminded of my own mortality…
Luckily Dave was there to help me up. We realised that we didn’t have any painkillers in the house and it was 4:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. In France everything closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday!!
Dave helped me into his Jaguar and Dave drove at very high speed to the local town where there was a pharmacy.
The pharmacist there was brilliant, and spoke pretty good English as well, she not only supplied me with Ibuprofen but also fitted me out with a sling for my arm and a support bandage for my ankle.
Last month’s I spent a week in Phoenix Arizona at ICON. During the week I spoke to loads of people and discovered lots of new tools and software products, some free and some premium.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be listing some of them here in my newsletter…
Slack (Web browser and mobile app)
Slack is a brilliant new free tool I’ve discovered. It’s very similar to Skype but aimed solely at businesses.
Slack has the same functionality as Skype except it does a much better job of saving the chat history. It also has a very good search function.
When you search it searches through all chat logs and also searches through all files which have been shared!!
Me and the team here at Sarah Staar Business School have been using it for a week now and I am a complete convert!!
The story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers’ innovative fast food eatery, McDonald’s, into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness.
I found this movie very interesting because I used to work in Mcdonalds back when I was a student!! It is a fascinating business story of how Ray Kroc turned a failing franchise business into the biggest restaurant empire in the world!!
A fascinating insight into, systems, thinking outside of the box, and how to build an empire, a MUST SEE!!
All the best,
