They are scrapping the President..
No this has absolutely nothing to do with the US Presidential Elections, or any Presidential Elections anywhere else in the world.
This is to do with HMS President.
HMS President is a ship that was moored near Tower Bridge and St Katherine’s docks.
There has been an HMS President in the Royal Navy since the first ship of that name was captured from the French in 1806, and from the Americans in 1812 !
The name has been used by the Royal Navy for over 200 years.
The current HMS President was built as an anti-submarine corvette for the First World War and was built in Scotland, on the river Clyde, in 1918.
Moored in the Thames since 1922 HMS President was used as a naval reserve training ship until she was sold in 1988, and has been used as a base for events and conferences since then, including Internet Marketing workshops.
The ship needs quite a bit of work doing to it, otherwise it will have to be scrapped.
The Lottery Fund has turned down an appeal. – twice
HMS President is the last ship to survive from the First World War.
Once scrapped, a name that has been on a ship in Her Majesty’s Navy for over 200 years will disappear.
And of course HMS President will be scrapped 2 years before making her centenary.
Why am I telling you this ?
Because I almost hired HMS President as a regular venue for my London Meet-up !!
We only need £330,000………
Flying to the USA today !!
So today Mum and I head off to the Windy City, on the first stage of our US road trip to visit relatives.
Now I say Windy City with my fingers crossed.
Because the plane is going to go somewhere near the path of Hurricane Nicole – the latest tropical storm to flare up.
So… let me see…..hmmmm…..
Passport – check
Wallet, dollars, and bank cards – check
Tablet computer – check
Tablet computer fully charged – check
Training videos loaded onto computer – check (Making the best use of downtime while flying)
Phone – check
Phone charged – check
20 hours of films and TV shows loaded onto phone – check (just in case flight is delayed)
– extra movies for tablet – check (in case the training videos really do send me off to sleep!)
And guess what I else I have bought for the trip ?.
Yes I have succumbed…..
I bought a selfy stick … going to use it to film some videos in Chicago with my phone.
I filmed a test video using my phone last week and was amazed by the quality check out the video here.
This is something I am going to experiment with more over the next few weeks.
Last Chance – Halloween Special !!
Okay so I am going to be in the USA for the next 2 weeks so before I go I wanted to give you 1 absolutely last chance to watch the replay of last weeks webinar How to Find High Paying Affiliate Offers and Promote Them on Facebook and YouTube.

Halt And Catch Fire season 3
This is a TV show about the early days computing. it’s the story about two very small companies that started up producing video games for the Commodore 64.
Halt And Catch Fire follows the story of how they started off producing video games and then diverged into online chat rooms.
As an Internet marketer I’m always fascinated about how things like the Internet came about and what people were doing online before the Internet!
Halt and catch fire is available on Amazon Prime, definitely worth watching if you’re an Internet marketer.
I’m only up to episode 5 of season three but already I’m hooked. Season 3 is set in 1985. It is the story of how the Internet came about and the expansion of social media, this was all before the Internet!!
A bit of a warning Halt and Catch Fire can be incredibly addictive, several people who I have recommended the show to have sat down and watched an entire season in one sitting I’m not mentioning any names , Kathy….
All the best,

Have a look at this video on my blog, in the video I explain how I discover new affiliate marketing techniques.
If you want to discover the strategies that the most successful Internet marketers are using right now you need to see this video.
USA Road Trip
So late next week I am off to the USA for a road trip, a road trip with a difference.
It’s with my mother. We are going to be landing in Chicago and going on from there to Iowa.
Why Iowa ?
Because it’s where my Great Aunt lives…..
How she got there from the UK is a story I will keep for another day, but it’s not the first time I have visited her.
Now Mum and I will have a few days to spare, so I was wondering…
– can you suggest any cool places to go and see in or near Chicago ?
(are there any real original/authentic blues clubs with live music still around ?)
(no not the tourist ones !)
– are there any good Internet Marketing meetups in or near Chicago ?
– what cool places are there to see over the border in Canada ?
I’m thinking about creating some new products in the $200 to $500 range and was discussing this at the London lunch last week.
And then I had an idea, why not ask you guys and girls what you thought ?
And specifically what sorts of things you were interested in…
So what interests you the most. Is it……
Below is a link to a quick survey.
This isn’t the start of a hidden sales programme or something crazy like that.
I really want to know, and, yes, your opinions are important to me.
How to Pay Almost No Tax – in the UK and the US !
There was a very good BBC documentary a while ago called “The Town that took on the Taxman”.
You can find numerous versions of it on YouTube and also on the BBC iplayer.
Dave has been busy working on a similar structure for Sarah Staar Business School and if you haven’t heard from him for a while, it’s been because he’s been going through a process of agreeing our accounts with the US tax authorities.
If you want to know how to avoid paying tax in either the US or the UK, or both, then Dave is thinking about running a special webinar at the end of October just to introduce you to the principles.
What Dave has put together is appropriate for anyone who creates their own products, and especially where the products are knowledge-based products.
It’s totally legal and ethical.
And it puts you on the same tax footing as most multi-nationals, including Starbucks, Apple, and VolkswagenAudi Group.
Let me know if you are interested..
This Weeks Movie
Well I hate to admit it but yes it’s true, I am a great fan of the James Bond movies.
Dave teases me that all I need now is a white cat sitting on my lap..
Anyway, last year I purchased the James Bond “Bond 50” Blu-ray box set.
Every James Bond film ever released, with all the old ones digitally remastered into the Blu-ray format.
And for the past six months I’ve been systematically working my way through all of the films.
Two nights ago I finally reached the last movie in the series – Spectre..
I really enjoyed watching it, the script was well written, and the film was very well directed.
I think Spectre brilliantly closes a lot of open loops that had been opened in previous films over the years.
I really enjoyed it and I think it breaks new ground for a James Bond film.
Definitely worth watching, but make sure you watch the other two films in the sequence first…
Quantum of Solace
Which is my favourite Bond films??
Who was the best Bond??
I think I’ll leave that for another newsletter.
All the best,
For the past few weeks we’ve been enjoying unusually hot sunny weather here in the UK, to such an extent that I actually now have a sun tan for the first time in several years !
Last Monday was a holiday here in the UK so I jumped in the car, risked the bank holiday traffic, and drove to Bournemouth.
Wow ! what a beautiful place…. I loved it so much I’m now thinking of moving there !
When I am out and about you might have noticed I have a tendency to park my brain in autopilot and let it wander off.
Well, for the last couple of years one of the things on my to-do list has been to write a book talking about how I see the world and my early experiences growing up.
The things that have made me the person I am today and the main influences in my life.
Being dyslexic it can be quite daunting writing a book and to be honest this embryo book is one of the main reasons that I have ended up with a suntan!
You see I came up with quite a novel way of writing my book. I’ve been using the audio recorder app that I have on my phone. I plug my hands-free kit into my telephone and take a one hour walk down the beach and dictate a chapter of my book.
Next I download the audio recordings to my computer, edit the audio file, cutting out any bits I don’t like. I then send off the audio recording to be transcribed.
I then edit the transcription, tidying up the grammar. Hey presto I have a chapter of my book.
This process seems to be working incredibly well and is enabling me to get 3 chapters completed every week!
I’m hoping to have the book finished by the end of September.
On Tuesday I celebrated my birthday. Dave took me for a drive in the country, visiting a lovely country pub, having a meal out, and finishing off with a movie.
On the way we stopped at a petrol station (a gas station for those of you in the US) and was totally taken aback !
I was paying for my fuel when I noticed a display in the shop selling of all things, get this, virtual reality headsets!!!
I made a joke to the guy on the checkout saying “I bet you sell loads of those…”
He replied.. “actually yes we sell loads of them, its people who clip their mobile phones into them !!”
This is a pretty good example of what I call “Pattern Interrupt”
Changing the context from what people expect to what they don’t.
It just goes to show that pattern interrupt works incredibly well offline as well as online.
My most successful use of pattern interrupt came from my Affiliate Formula X sales video.
This is a sales video I did in my car and it was very different to my competitors sales videos.
When people watch a sales video they normally expect to either see a PowerPoint slide presentation or a presenter standing in a studio reading a carefully crafted script.
In my Affiliate Formula X video I’m driving along in my car speaking very much off the cuff.
Classic pattern interrupt… As a result this sales video converts at about 7%.
The Next London Lunch
After much badgering Martin has finally fixed the date for the next London lunch. Friday the 30th of September.
For the first time ever I’m going to be attending with the full team from Sarah staar Business School, Angela who has flown in especially from the USA, Kathy who’s coming from Scotland, Catherine, and possibly Su.
If you’ve never been to the London lunch it’s the ideal place to meet new people in the Internet marketing community.
We all have lunch in the restaurant and then spend the rest of the afternoon and evening chatting in the hotel bar.
The London lunch has a great mix of people. Complete beginners through to Internet millionaires.
I always love films that have an entrepreneurial feel about them. True stories about how somebody made a fortune.
War Dogs is based on a true story about how two ordinary guys ended up as international arms dealers!!
I saw War Dogs with Dave on my birthday and we both really enjoyed it. At times it’s absolutely hilarious. But at other times it can be quite dark.
Overall Dave and I both thoroughly enjoyed the film. This is one I will definitely be getting on Blu-ray.
The Everything Store
This is a book about Amazon.com and how Jeff Bezos Started the company and grew it to be the largest online store in the world, the everything store.
I have to say after reading this book I’m not very impressed with how Amazon treats its staff and competitors. They can be a bit of a bully at times.
The book opened my eyes and has taught me a few lessons in how not to run a company!!
I think Jeff Bezos has been so focused on expanding Amazon, that he doesn’t really care about the collateral damage he has caused along the the way.
Not the best book in the world, but I think I definitely learnt some lessons….
All the best,
